The system has been designed on a steel industrial cart with 5 in. dia. wheels. This allows the operator to position the system in any location. The only external connections required are to a 100 psi. air supply, and a 20 amp 60 cycle, 120VAC service. (Optional connections would include the connection to a liquid nitrogen supply.)
The system has been designed to accommodate projectiles of diameters up to 0.9 inch. Any weight projectile can be utilized as long as the diameter does not exceed 0.9 inch diameter. Due to the infinite number of possible projectile velocities and weights, the velocity for different weight projectiles will have to be experimentally determined
This system was designed with the ability to launch any size projectile up to 0.9" in. dia. The unit can be calibrated for velocity / breech pressure.
The system has been designed to achieve a range of test temperatures from -25°C to +150°C. A time cooling chart is provided for a steel sample mounted in the sample support fixture. The temperature control system has the ability to heat a sample to much higher temperatures.
In order to achieve temperatures below the -25°C level in a reasonable amount of time, It is recommended that the operator utilize a Pressurized Liquid Nitrogen supply (not supplied).
