TYPES AND WORKING PRINCIPLES

Dynasen produces one type of piezoelectric thin film gauge. This type of gauge is primarily applied in the measurement of plane waves. It is the PVF2 gauge often referred to as the piezofilm stress gauge. This assembly basically consists of one set of electrodes and leads that are vapor-deposited on either side of a large sheet of PVF2 polymer and encapsulated between two thin layers of suitable insulators (Kapton or FEP).
Only the PVF2 film between the electrodes is poled. The output leads are extended using 0.0005 Inch-thick Cu foil using silver epoxy to form sturdy solderable connecting tabs. Standard solder methods only are required to connect to our gauges. Dynasen’s PVF 2 general-purpose gauges are made from uni-axially stretched 9 (0.0004 Inch) and 28 micro micron-(0.0011 Inch) thick PVF 2 film respectively. They can also be made from biaxially-stretched 25 micrometer (0.001 Inch) film for special stress/strain environment applications. PVF 2 gauges with element sizes ranging from 0.015 to 1.0 inch and various insulation thicknesses can be made. Consult our price lists for our standard PVF2 gauges.

Piezoelectric gauges generally do not require an external excitation source. The output of a piezoelectric gauge is generally expressed by the amount of charge per unit area released by the action of the normal stress. For data recording, the output is passed through a separate signal conditioner or Charge Converter (available from Dynasen) into a recording device.

MODELS PVF2 11-size-EK, PVF2 11-size-EFEP.(UNIAX. STR.)

Our models PVF2 11-size-EK and PVF2 11-size-EFEP are our general-purpose piezofilm gauges. As per our established methodology for assigning part no to our sensors, 11 means 0.0011 inch thick PVF2 film, size means lateral dimensions of element in Inch, and E and K mean epoxy and Kapton encapsulations respectively. Specify element size, lead length, and insulation thickness and type upon ordering. 0.001 Inch-thick Kapton is standard insulation for our PVF2 11 gauges. MODEL PVF2 4-.040-EK. (UNIAX.- STR.)

Our model PVF2 4-.040-EK is a dedicated high speed piezofilm gauge for fast response and moderate pressure measurements (0-50 Kbars, 0-5 GPA). Its utilizes 9 micrometers PVF2 film and 0.0005 Inch-thick Kapton construction. When used in PMMA plastic like materials, it can directly produce wave forms that rival measurements obtained from velocity laser interferometry.

Our model PVF2 10-size-EK is made specifically for applications of stress measurements where strain effects are present. They are custom-made only. Please, specific gauge size and lead length upon ordering.
