GAS GUNS, SHOCK TUBES

Dynasen's gas gun facility is privately owned and is one of the most complete facilities of its kind to study the response of materials and pressure sensors exposed to dynamic loads. Specific areas of endeavor that can be investigated with Dynasen's gas gun facility are Equation of State measurements in various types of media at room and elevated temperatures in the pressure range of 0-350 Kbars, failure threshold measurements (spall), and the calibration and development of shock and high g's sensors. Dynasen's gas guns consist of two different arrangements. They comprise two 8-ft launch tubes, 2 1/2-inch and 5-inch in diameter. Accurately controlled impact velocities can be achieved in the range of 100-3500 ft./sec.. All tests are conducted in a large impact chamber that can be evacuated to 50 microns Hg. A 12-inch pole 8-inch gap 2,000 gauss electromagnet is located in the impact tank for particle velocity measurements. Dynasen's gas gun facility is supported by time interval counters, oscilloscopes, digital recorders, and pulse power supplies. The gas gun is also supported by a versatile machine shop, thin film, and material capability, and a complete data handling/computer system.
Dynasen also has on site a small vertical projectile launching system for launching projectiles less than 0.5in. in diameter at speeds of 40ft/sec. (approx. 12m/sec.) to 180+ ft/sec. (approx. 55m/sec.). The system is also supported by a versatile machine shop, thin film, and material capability, and a complete data handling/computer system.
