TYPES AND WORKING PRINCIPLES

In the field of shock wave metrology, techniques and electronic equipment with dedicated functionality and adequate time responses must be used in order to generate useful information from shock pressure sensors. To facilitate the use by it's customers of shock pressure sensors, Dynasen has developed and commercialized specific electronic equipment. Relying upon over thirty five years of experience, this company is currently producing four specific electronic arrangements. They are the Pin Mixers, the Pulse Power Supply, the Charge Integrator, and the Line Driver. The pin mixers are multi-channel instruments that provide electrical excitation and circuitry for our ionization , self-shorting and piezoelectric pins and produce individual or multiplexed output signals. Our pulse power supplies are pulse/bridge/line driver instruments to be used with our piezoresistive stress and strain gauges, whereas our charge integrators are devices that readily transform the output of a piezoelectric stress gauge into an accurate wave form. A line driver is an instrument that can transport a rapidly changing electrical signal over long distances of cable without major distortion or losses of high frequency components.

PIN MIXER MODEL CS2 - 50 - 300 & CS2-50-300A

Our pin mixer Model CS2-50-300 or CS2-50-300A are twelve-channel instruments that can bias or accept the output of our ionization, self-shorting and piezoelectric pins and is capable of producing sharp and well-defined individual or multiplexed signals. (These units are used in situations where you will see sub-1-microsecond pulse to pulse durations between pins). Each channel on these units essentially comprises a simple RC- discharge circuit or a 50-OHM termination. The outputs of all channels are routed into a 1/50 or 1/100 step-down summing amplifier. The bias voltage (ionization and self-shorting pins) can be continuously adjusted from 30 to 350 volts for all pins on the CS2-50-300, and can be individually set for each pin on the newer Model CS2-50-300A (from the outside both units look identical). Each channel can readily be converted from shorting to piezoelectric mode or vice-versa from the action of a switch. The pin mixer is a 110 Volt AC operating instrument. It can be internally switched for 220 volt AC operation. Each channel can be easily modified to change the characteristics of an individual pins output.

PIN MIXER MODEL MJ1 - 50 - 300

Dynasen's Pin Mixer, Model MJ1-50-300, is a twelve-channel instrument that can be used with self-shorting (ionization) or piezoelectric time-of-arrival detectors (pins) or switches and is capable of producing highly recognizable and identifiable output signals. This unit was designed for special, rare, situations where you have relatively long time durations between pulses, i.e., 10 microseconds between pulses. For faster pulse to pulse durations use the model CS2-50-300.

The signal produced by each channel can be either individually viewed from a dedicated output port or from the single output a summing / follower dedicated arrangement. The individual output is always positive and can be amplitude-coded from one to ten volts in steps of one volt increments using a voltage-select switch. The output of the summing / follower, which is also amplitude-coded as per the individual output can be made either positive or negative through the action of a polarity switch. All odd numbered channels produce quasi-triangular output pulses whereas all even numbered channels produce quasi-rectangular pulses. All channels can be set upon request with either quasi-triangular or quasi-rectangular outputs at purchase time. Positive polarity piezoelectric devices are required with this instrument. When viewing the individual outputs, short cable and high input impedance recorders are required to preserve the high speed response capability of the pin mixer. The summed output can be transported to a distant recorder with minimal loss of the signals' high frequency components, making use of a 50 nanosecond fast risetime line driver.

PULSE POWER SUPPLY MODEL CK2 - 50/0.050 - 300

Our model CK 2-50/0.050-300 is a two-channel pulse power/ bridge network arrangement that is dedicated for the use of 50-OHM and 0.050 OHM piezoresistive stress and extensoresistive strain gauges. Each unit is configured to operate in any one of three different ways(each selected by the uses); 1) 50-ohm arrangement 2) the 50 ohm compensating arrangement, and 3) the 0.050-ohm configuration. Each configuration essentially consists of a capacitor that can be discharged upon command into a bridge network (gauge is part of network), thus, is capable of producing an electrical output of the bridge that reflects the change of resistance of the gauge. The single gauge arrangement (50-ohm or 0.050-ohm) is typically used in applications where gauge outputs due to stress are large compared to the effects of strain or temperature. The other arrangement, referred to as the compensating arrangement, is to be used where secondary effects (Strain, Temperature) can be appreciable but can be automatically canceled by using a second sensor in the opposite side of the bridge. The user selects the mode of operation via switches inside the unit and on the front panel. These units are wired for 110 Volt AC operation but can be switched internally for 220 Volt AC operations and have a rack mounting capability.

LINE DRIVER MODEL CS 1 - 50 - .5/0

Dynasen's line driver, Model CS1-50-.5/0, is a six channel instrument that can be used to reliably transport an electrical signal from a source to a distant recorder using a 50-ohm line driver arrangement. Each channel is provided with a potentiometer for signal attenuation. The attenuation factor for each channel is readily obtained by depressing a switch that connects a 1 volt reference source to that channel's input and displays the output on the front panel meter.

The unit can be configured for 110 Volt AC operation of for 220 Volt AC operations and has a rack mounting capability. Please consult our technical staff prior to ordering our line driver system.

CHARGE INTEGRATORS MODELS CI-50-0.1 or CI-50-0.01

Charge and integrators are simple non-inductive passive devices that can be used with piezoelectric stress gauges and are capable of yielding direct and accurate wave forms of the interacting shock waves. Our CI-50-0.1 charge integrator is a general purpose converter capable of yielding direct wave profiles with time resolution of 2X10 -8 sec. using any size PVF 2 sensor over a 0-300 Kbars stress range. A direct output charge per unit area of the gauge can be obtained by multiplying its capacity (0.1 microfarad) by the measured converter's output voltage and thus, inferred into a state of stress using the piezofilm gauge's calibration. Our Model CI-50-0.01 is for very low pressure applications only. Please consult our technical staff prior to ordering.
