GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The CAR'TS System, (as its name implies: Coating's Adhesion Resistance and Tensile Strength) is unique and versatile dual-purpose test apparatus that can be used for either quantifying the adhesion strength between a surface coating and its underlying substrate or for measuring the tensile strengths of coatings and substrates themselves. In its "coating adhesion mode", the system can be used to subject a test sample to a wide range of normal loads /sliding actions thus permitting to quantify the resistance to damage of a surface coating against contact friction or scuffing effects. In its "tensile strength mode" it can be used to derive the tensile strengths of coatings or substrates themselves at various speeds (strain rates) and temperatures. This apparatus represents a new breed of material testing equipment from which a wealth of practical engineering information (scratch or scuffing resistance, bond strength) as well as basic physical quantities (friction coefficients and tensile strengths) can be derived for surfaces coatings and substrates. It can be used to test the surface of virtually any finished commercial product over a wide range of solid-to-solid continuous or momentary rubbing scenarios and sample temperatures (room to 200 °F).

The main components and features of the CAR'TS system are as follows.
1) A sturdy steel-frame 2'(height)x2'(depth)X4'(width) wheel mounted support cart with a 2" thick maple top.
2) The CAR'TS system and its various components consisting of
2-a Aluminum Test Bed
2-b Digital Pull Speed Actuator (0-5 IPS) and 1,000 lbs Capac.
2-c Load Tower with Swivel Norm. Load Cell (1,000 Lb) Features.
2-d Adjustable Height Swiveling Arm/Friction Body Assembly.
2-e Slide Table/Sample Holder With Temperature Adjust. Capab.
2-f 6 inch stroke Capability
3) A Table-Mounted Control Panel.
4) Steady or Momentary Loading Capability of Test Sample.
5) Modular Construction for Quick Assembly/Disassembly Using the Support Cart for the Shipping Container.
6) Position vs time output ldvt,0V=0% stroke 5V=100% stroke
7) Variables for the actuator ie., pull speed, accellerations and positioning are all controlled via a keyboard interface on a Programable Positioning Drive Controller. Programming can be performed via direct keypad input or by a PC (not provided).
8) 115 VAC power requirements, 30 Amp. max.
